Harry Bernard Cox (1906-1989), CBE (1956), was educated at Upholland Grammar School, and Keble College, Oxford. In 1930 Cox entered the Colonial Administrative Service in Nigeria. He held the posts of Assistant District Officer (1933); District Officer (1940); Administrative Officer (1947); Director of Commerce and Industries (1949); acting Development Secretary (1953-1955); and acting Commissioner for Nigeria (1955).
